Ken and Julie are married and they share many research and leisure interests. They research and write together in the field of information systems. They have had their research on qualitative methods for systems analysis and design including metaphors and structured observation of the decision making environment (STROBE) published in premier journals and research volumes such as MIS Quarterly, Decision Sciences, and many others. All of their research has been with nonprofit organizations including the American Red Cross (many different chapters), the Nebraska State Patrol, and off-Broadway theatres in New York and regional professional theatres in Philadelphia and New Jersey.
The Kendalls have recently completed an ninth edition of their college textbook, Systems Analysis and Design, published by Pearson. Professors Kendall have given numerous invited international presentations of their research including the inaugural talk for the Bangkok Chapter of the ACM in Thailand, research presentations at Cambridge University, (where they were spent a sabbatical together), Oxford, LSE,

and many other talks in Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Japan, Finland, Denmark, Egypt, Mexico, Portugal, Chile, Jamaica, New Zealand, Poland, Ireland, and at many universities in the US. Ken and Julie served together as Functional MIS Editors for the journal Interfaces. Over the years, they have also served as Co-directors of the DSI Doctoral Student Consortium, Co-directed the IS Junior Faculty Consortium for ICIS, and conducted many joint workshops on research, reviewing, and teaching for the ISDA conference sponsored by the PhD Project which supports minority doctoral students. The Kendalls are serving as Faculty Advisors for the Ecommerce & Information Technology Society at Rutgers.
The Kendalls are both devoted to the performing arts, especially theatre and opera. For relaxation they attend the Metropolitan Opera in New York. They are members of the Drama League, and have served as nominators for them. They are lifetime members of the American Theatre Wing, and they both serve on the Board of EgoPo Classic Theatre in Philadelphia where Ken is Chairman Emeritus of the Board and Julie is Past Vice President.
